Died in the Royal Hospital, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, on Monday 9 August 1915, aged 36, after a road traffic accident. He was returning to barracks in Chesterfield (in the dark) under a general order to do so when he was knocked down by a taxi.
It is not known where William Colbourne is buried.
William Colbourne enlisted at Alfreton on Wednesday 24 February 1915. At enlistment he gave his address as High Street, Stonebroom, Nr Alfreton [Derbyshire].
The 1911 census records William Colbourne was a Dataller in a Coal Mine [a casual labourer employed by the day on servicing work]. He was registered as 'Colbourn' at birth.
